A cover letter serves as a soft introduction to you and your resume. It
should demonstrate that you meet and exceeded the job requirements and
demonstrate that you are interested in the position. A cover letter has four
elements. To be highly effective it should contain all four elements.

Four elements a cover letter should have

  1. Who you are.
  2. Why you want to work for that specific company.
  3. Why are you a fit for the position.
  4. It should communicate your interest in scheduling a one-on-one
    meeting.

You want to be sure to always send original letters to each employer. This
may require you to have several different cover letters. Keep in mind that
employers may be seeking different job requirements even if the position
title is the same.
